TACO SHELLS — CLOSEST TO HOMEMADE®
Information updated March 2024
Tacos!
Traditionally, homemade Taco Shells are simply Ground Corn, Water + Salt cooked in Oil. Today, there are also Gluten-Free Taco Shell options made with gluten-free flours such as Cassava Flour.
COMMERCIAL OILS: Seen below, some manufactured Taco Shells contain commercial oils which we would never have in our home kitchens to make Taco Shells such as Palm Oil, Cottonseed Oil and Soybean Oil.
Shown below, MORE THAN LIME JUICE IN THE OLD EL PASO HINT OF LIME: Old El Paso Hint of Lime Taco Shells contain way more than added Lime Juice compared to the Original Taco Shells. Whereas the Old El Paso Original Taco Shells — below left — contain 3 ingredients, the Hint of Lime Taco Shells — below right — contain 12 ingredients including Corn Syrup, MSG, Citric Acid, Yeast Extract, Natural Flavor and Dried Whey.
Seen below, OLD EL PASO BOLD NACHO CHEESE FLAVORED TACO SHELLS are Far From Homemade™ with multiple commercial ingredients we would never use in homemade Taco Shells >> nine of the ingredients are banned at Amazon-owned Whole Foods Market including MSG, Chemical Preservatives, Flavor Enhancers, Artificial Flavor and multiple Artificial Colors.
CLOSEST TO HOMEMADE: Following are some Taco Shells which are Closest To Homemade® with no Hydrogenated Oils, no Soy, Canola, Palm or Cottonseed Oils and no added Flavors, Colors or Chemical Preservatives. Some are made from Organic Blue Corn while others are made with Organic Yellow Corn plus there are a couple of Grain Free + Gluten Free options made with Cassava Flour.
