Traditionally, Refried Beans are made using either Black Beans or Pinto Beans. The beans are soaked in water and then seasoned with spices and fried in Lard.
Refried Beans whose ingredients are closest to those we would use at home are designated as Closest To Homemade >> any ingredients we would never use at home to make Refried Beans are designated as Not In Kitchen™.
General Mills-owned Old El Paso Refried Beans contain ingredients we would never use at home to make Refried Beans including Sugar, Soybean Oil and Hydrogenated Lard.
