Once upon a time, Mountain Dew costs 15¢ a bottle and the brand’s positioning was based on Hillbilly culture:
Today, PepsiCo-owned Mountain Dew has been re-branded as MTN DEW with a hard core Energy positioning.
Here’s a look at what’s inside a 20oz. single serving of MTN DEW:
MTN DEW contains 12 ingredients, only two of which we ever have in our home kitchens >> Carbonated Water and Concentrated Orange Juice. (Source for ingredients: PepsiCo Product Facts Web site 12/23)
The remaining 10 ingredients in MTN DEW are man-made commercial ingredients, four of which are banned at Whole Foods >> High Fructose Corn Syrup, Sodium Benzoate, Calcium Disodium Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid and Artificial Color, Yellow 5.
A one serving 20oz. bottle of MTN DEW contains 77 grams of Added Sugar which is more than 3x higher than the 25 grams The American Heart Association recommends for a child for an entire day. (Source: American Heart Association Web site 2023)
