BODYARMOR LYTE — FAR FROM HOMEMADE™

RAPID REVIEW

Information updated June 2024

By definition, Fortified Sports Drinks are Far From Homemade since we never add items such as Vitamins and Minerals to our homemade items.. Light versions of all beverages tend to be even further from homemade because they generally contain alternative sweeteners which we don’t use at home such as Erythritol.

BODYARMOR LYTE beverages are primarily Filtered Water. Following is a close-up look at what’s in BODYARMOR LYTE Orange Mandarin Flavor. There is no real Orange Juice or Clementine Juice in the ingredient list. Rather, the product contains “Natural Orange Clementine Flavor with other Natural Flavors”. This drink also contains other ingredients we would never use at home in a beverage such as three added Gums and two FDA-recognized preservatives. It is sweetened with Erythritol and Stevia. Coconut Water Concentrate is the third ingredient. (Sources: The Coca-Cola Company BODYARMOR Web site 6/24; U.S. FDA 2024)

Aside from the different added Flavors, Colors and Gums, the basic ingredients are the same for all varieties of BODYARMOR LYTE.

STRAWBERRY BANANA COMPARISON: Below is a comparison of BODYARMOR Strawberry Banana vs. BODYARMOR LYTE Strawberry Banana.

All BODYARMOR LYTE beverages do not list real fruit juices in the ingredient list >> no surprise given that real fruit juice contains multiple calories. However, the basic BODYARMOR — below left — also does not list real fruit juice in the ingredients. The ingredients for these two products are basically the same with the exception of the Sweeteners and the inclusion of Guar Gum in the LYTE version — below right.

Shown below, LYTE SPORTS DRINK COMPARISON BODYARMOR LYTE vs. Gatorlyte: There is no real Fruit Juice listed in the ingredients for either of these products >> they both contain added Flavor which mimics the taste of fruit. BODYARMOR LYTE is sweetened with Erythritol + Stevia while PepsiCo’s Gatorlyte is sweetened with Sugar + Stevia. Gatorlyte contains two ingredients banned at Amazon-owned Whole Foods Market >> Sucrose Acetate Isobutyrate and Yellow #6.
