Progresso Broccoli Cheese Soup contains numerous ingredients we would never use at home to make Broccoli Cheese Soup such as DATEM, Sugar, Soybean Oil, Soy Protein Concentrate, Citric Acid (an FDA-recognized Preservative), Maltodextrin, Added Flavor + Color, Yeast Extract, Dried Nonfat Milk, Whey + Dried Whey and Carob Bean Gum. (Source: U.S. FDA 2025)

DATEM is an ‘Acronym Ingredient’ banned at Whole Foods which stands for Diacetyl Tartaric Acid Ester of Monoglycerides and Diglycerides.

We are paying for all of these ingredients which don’t need to be included.

It would not necessarily be a big deal if we ate these types of ingredients once in a while, but it is the cumulative effect of consuming these types of ingredients multiple times a day, week after week, year after year.
