SARA LEE FROZEN POUND CAKE — FAR FROM HOMEMADE™

RAPID REVIEW

Information updated March 2024

Following is a snapshot of the ingredients in a Sara Lee Pound Cake . . . it contains several commercial ingredients we would never use at home to make Pound Cake such as Soybean Oil, two Gums (Guar Gum and Xanthan Gum), Natural Flavor, Monglycerides, Diglycerides and Milk Protein Concentrate.

Two additional ingredients in a Sara Lee Pound Cake are banned at Whole Foods who cites them as “Unacceptable in food” >> the primary ingredient — Enriched Bleached Flour — and Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, an Emulsifying Agent which creates a softer crumb and extends the product’s shelf life.

Q: If you were making a Pound Cake at home, would you use Soybean Oil? Have you ever even had Soybean Oil in your kitchen? Sara Lee does. According to the USDA 2024, 94% of U.S. Soybeans are Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).

COMPARISON: Sara Lee Pound Cake vs. Single Slice. The Single Slice does not have any real Butter and contains five ingredients banned at Whole Foods.
