WHAT'S IN A CHICK-FIL-A CHICKEN SANDWICH?

CHICK-FIL-A CHICKEN SANDWICH — FAR FROM HOMEMADE™

Information updated March 2024

The Chicken Sandwich at Chick-fil-A contains 8 ingredients banned at Whole Foods including two instances of Bleached Flour, Monosodium Glutamate (a.k.a. MSG), Potassium Sorbate, Dimethylpolysiloxane — an anti-foaming agent, Sodium Aluminum Phosphate, Calcium Propionate and DATEM which stands for Diacteyl Tartaric Acid Ester of Monoglycerides and Diglycerides.

There are also multiple ingredients we would never use at home to make a Chicken Sandwich such as two inclusions of Sugar, three inclusions of Soybean Oil, two inclusions of Palm Oil, Citric Acid and Ascorbic Acid (2 FDA-recognized Chemical Preservatives), Palm Kernel Oil, Commercial Natural Flavor, Soy Lecithin, Monoglycerides and Fully Refined Peanut Oil.

The Chicken Deluxe Sandwich at Chick-fil-A is the same basic Chicken Sandwich as seen above, but with added Cheese >> this one below has Cheese which adds another Whole Foods-banned ingredient to the mix — Sorbic Acid — bringing the total to 9 ingredients banned at Whole Foods.

The Far From Homemade Cheese Slice contains the Sorbic Acid Chemical Preservative as well as Water, Sodium Phosphate, Sodium Citrate, Annatto coloring, Oleoresin Paprika coloring and “Sunflower Lecithin added for slice separation”.

Here’s a side-by-side look at these two Chicken Sandwiches from Chick-fil-A:

FALSE INFORMATION ON CHICK-FIL-A WEB SITE: They falsely state their Chicken Sandwich is served “on a buttery bun” . . . but it’s really butter flavored Soybean Oil and Palm Kernel Oil with no real dairy. “Butter” is nowhere to be seen in the ingredient list. (Source: Chick-fil-A Web site 3/24)

Seen below, the Chick-fil-A Sauce is also banned at Whole Foods for the inclusion of yet another FDA-recognized Chemical Preservative >> Calcium Disodium Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid. The latter part of this laboratory ingredient is listed on the package as the seemingly innocuous acronym, EDTA. (Source: U.S. FDA 2024)

Soybean Oil and Sugar are the first two ingredients in the Chick-fil-A Sauce:
