WHAT'S IN PROGRESSO SOUPS?

CANNED PROGRESSO SOUPS — Far From Homemade™

Information updated January 2024

General Mills Progresso Canned Soups are Far From Homemade with numerous ingredients Not In Kitchen™ when making homemade soups. Many Progresso Soups are banned at Whole Foods for containing ingredients which Whole Foods cites as “Unacceptable in food”. (Source for Progresso ingredients: General Mills Progresso Web site 1/24; Source for banned ingredients: Amazon Whole Foods Web site 1/24)

Progresso Broccoli Cheese Soup contains numerous ingredients we would never use at home to make Broccoli Cheese Soup such as DATEM, Sugar, Soybean Oil, Soy Protein Concentrate, Citric Acid (an FDA-recognized Preservative), Maltodextrin, Added Flavor + Color, Yeast Extract, Dried Nonfat Milk, Whey + Dried Whey and Carob Bean Gum. (Source: U.S. FDA 2024)

DATEM is an ‘Acronym Ingredient’ banned at Whole Foods which stands for Diacetyl Tartaric Acid Ester of Monoglycerides and Diglycerides.

We are paying for all of these ingredients which don’t need to be included.

It would not necessarily be a big deal if we ate these types of ingredients once in a while, but it is the cumulative effect of consuming these types of ingredients multiple times a day, week after week, year after year.
